I saw Chris Kohler in the Gamestop on Broadway today! I know it was him because he was wearing this shirt. I totally should have asked him about the Yoshi games! That would have been an awkward conversation.

Me: Hey, Chris Kohler. What do you think of those Yoshi games?
Chris: Oh, uh... Yoshi? Yoshi's Island is good, I guess, and they've got that one for the DS...
Me: No, not those Yoshi games.
Chris: ... Yoshi's Cookie?
Me: You know which Yoshi games I'm talking about.
Chris: Get away from me!
Me: MIND WARPING FINGERNAILS

Yeah, that would have been awesome.

Nothing to do with your post, sorry, but do you realize I read your first post about gazpacho being hilarious nearly eight years ago? I just hit my anniversary and thought of that when your post came up.

It's been a crazy ride, hasn't it?

My views on gazpacho have become somewhat more moderate over time, though I do still find it at least mildly amusing.

hey, do you want to be a huge gaming nerd with me on Saturday? I'm going to be in the city and I want to hit up the Nintendo World Store and Book Off and maybe some other video gamey type locations before I go to a show up near Times Square in the evening.

Also, I thought that Chris Kohler lived in California. Or is it just that he guests on 1Up's Retronauts whenever he's in CA for business?

I think Kohler was in town to interview Miyamoto or some shit. I should have at least shaken his hand, because then I could have been all like "I just shook the hand of a man who just shook the hand of Shigeru Miyamotooooooooo!"

I'd love to do Saturday but school is just super crazy right now... I think I have to build some kind of game show device on Saturday. :(

Well, I was mostly referring to the fact that there are numerous import stores in the city, but let's do something nerdy when I come back to the midwest! This fall/winter!

You TOTALLY should have. I once won a copy of his book by getting second place in an IRC Nintendo trivia contest that he was the special guest for or something, and I actually did ask him about them, but the best I could do was to get him to admit that he'd made them. (I wasn't sure if it was the same guy.)

Oh, you totally should have. And taken a cellphone pic of his reaction. Just for old times' sake.

I actually ran into Chris Kohler when I was at E3 in 2006 (my first time going)... I did ask him about the Yoshi games, I told him I enjoyed the games when I played them, and he thought that was pretty cool, actually. He even remembered who I was after looking at my badge - The height of my ZZT/MZX days was a bit after Kohler's, I think. I also got my old ZZT site mentioned in his "Retro Gaming Hacks" book :)
